Durand Sculpture Studio & Gallery

A working art/sculpture studio, with many completed wood sculptures, western art statues, and models for commercial art commissions. Mr. Durand is well known for his demonstrations at the New York State Fair, but currently only has time for the Maple Festival in nearby Marathon, NY. Much of Durand's work is exhibited in museums around the country. The local library in Cincinnatus has a few of his pieces, including a sculpture of a Frontier's Man and two large paintings: Forshee Tinsmith from Cincinnatus & Drummer Boy (said to have gone to the Revolutionary War from Cincinnatus). The work is so varied, people always enjoy it, as well as discussing the work with Mr. Durand. Open year round, Monday-Friday, 9AM-4:30PM, Most Saturdays, 9AM-NOON, and by appointment anytime.



The Corning Museum of Glass

Located in Corning, New York, The Museum houses the world's greatest glass collection, the library of record for the history, art, and early technology of glassmaking, and a teaching studio. The glass collection contains more than 27,000 objects representing every country and historical period in which glassmaking has been practiced. The Egyptians made the earliest objects in the collection, 3,500 years ago. Artists or manufacturers made the most recent items within the last few months. Open Daily, 9AM-5PM.

National Soaring Museum

Sits atop the ridges overlooking the Chemung River Valley near Elmira, NY. The NSM holds and displays the nation's largest collection of sailplanes and other airships related to motorless flight. Interactive displays and historical interpretations are offered. Groups and tours are welcome. The Elmira area has an intense history in aviation with the National Soaring Museum, the National Warplane Museum, and the Glenn Curtiss aviation museum. Adjacent to the National Soaring museum is the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation's soaring flight center where you can purchase sailplane rides to soar silently above the beautiful farms and forests of the Finger lakes region. Both the NSM and the Harris Hill Soaring operation are not-for-profit, 501(c)3 corporations. Open daily all year round, 10AM to 5PM. Visit website for more information.

Woodlawn National Cemetery

Veterans cemetery, includes veterans from Civil War through Viet Nam War. Includes the gravesites of 3,000 Confederate POW's who died in Elmira during the Civil War. Open year round, during daylight hours. Free admission.
